Bio
Ira Reines is acclaimed for his distinctive style, “Sculptural Etherealism,” in which elegant bronze figures emerge from amorphous forms, embodying beauty born of chaos. Born in New York City, Reines began sculpting at age five and refined his technique at the Medallic Art Company in Connecticut. Profoundly influenced by classical masters like Michelangelo and Rodin, his early career took a pivotal turn when he collaborated for over a decade with Art Deco legend Erté, transforming the designer’s iconic illustrations into bronze sculptures now held in major institutions including the Met and the Victoria and Albert Museum. After Erté’s death, Reines developed his own contemporary vision, exploring the tension between order and chaos through fluid, tactile works that celebrate the human form and cosmic harmony. His sculptures are widely collected, with major installations like Aurora at Gardner-Webb University.
