“I just happen to like ordinary things. When I paint them, I don’t try to make them extraordinary. I just try to paint them ordinary-ordinary.”
Bio
A leading figure in the Pop Art movement, Andy Warhol redefined the boundaries between high art and mass culture. After studying at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, he moved to New York in 1949 and gained recognition as a commercial illustrator. In the 1960s, Warhol rose to fame by transforming everyday items and celebrities into art, famously using silkscreen printing to replicate Coca-Cola bottles, soup cans, and portraits of stars like Marilyn Monroe. His studio, The Factory, became a hub for avant-garde art and filmmaking. Warhol also explored writing and publishing, founding Interview magazine and authoring The Philosophy of Andy Warhol. He remained a prolific and provocative creator until his death in 1987.
