“The work of art must seize upon you, wrap you up in itself, carry you away. It is the means by which the artist conveys his passion; it is the current which he puts forth which sweeps you along in his passion.”

Bio

The painter of joy and grace, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, was born in Limoges, France, and moved to Paris at a young age, initially painting on porcelain to support himself. He studied at École des Beaux-Arts, where he befriended Monet and Sisley, sharing a passion that helped shape Impressionism. Despite early setbacks, including rejection by the Salon and poor auction sales, Renoir persisted and became a leading figure of the Impressionist movement, exhibiting alongside Monet, Manet, and others. Even as arthritis and paralysis affected his hands later in life, Renoir continued to paint vibrant, joyful works until his death, leaving a lasting legacy of beauty and warmth in his art.
