“Ink impressed into paper by etching gives this theme a depth and texture — a sense of being there — found in no other medium.”
Bio
Peter Daniel Miller, an American based in Kamakura, Japan, is one of the pioneers of contemporary photogravure etching, a technique originally developed in England and France in the early 19th century. The prints made from etched copperplates embody the texture, tonality, and depth of a three-dimensional impression. Having lived most of his life in Japan, his printmaking reflects the Japanese appreciation of nature. Peter Miller's photogravure etchings are in the permanent collections of the Kamakura Museum of Modern Art, the Yokohama Museum of Art, the U.S. National Museum of Asian Art, the U.S. National Museum of American Art, the Houston Museum of Fine Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Musée de Beaux Arts, Tours, the Pushkin Museum, the Russian National Museum of Oriental Art, the V&A Museum, and others.
