One Sky: Kathy Buist & Gustavo Torres poster featuring a kathy buist painting

One Sky brings together two seemingly disparate artists working with universal themes: the revitalizing power of nature and the indomitable perseverance of the human spirit. This past year has challenged us in many ways, keeping many physically apart as travel came to a standstill. Yet people have found peace and rejuvenation in nature and countless new ways to connect with one another. As the world opens up after this extended time apart, it is more apparent than ever that we’re all still together under One Sky.

Reunion: Zupan & Zupan featuring texture from Natasha Zupan's work and a painting by Bruno Zupan

Inspired by the shimmering light of the Mediterranean as well as the rich textures and colors of Mallorca, Bruno & Natasha Zupan have each produced inspired collections for their first joint show in over three years.

As the world slowly begins to emerge from a particularly long time apart, join us in celebrating another kind of REUNION at Galerie d’Orsay!

Visionary graffiti artist SEN-1 tells us a major theme of Hip Hop and the street art scene is that if somebody copies or tags over you, you have to “up your game” to stand apart. A similar process happened on a much larger scale in the 20th century between PARIS + NEW YORK. In France, artists like Picasso & Matisse revolutionized art as we knew it, quickly displacing the old guard. In postwar New York, the upstart artists of the downtown arts scene, in turn, replaced their European forebears.

It’s a process that builds up, year after year—exactly the way a wall becomes covered in graffiti.

AN URBAN CONVERSATION: PARIS + NEW YORK is a celebration of the artists, past & present, who are galvanizing cultural dialogues, challenging the standards of aesthetics, and pushing the possibilities of artistic expression.

CELEBRATING FIVE-GENERATIONS OF THE CAMILLE PISSARRO FAMILY COLLECTION

SEPTEMBER 2018

As Boston prepares for the most spirited rowing event of the year, The Head of the Charles, Galerie d’Orsay is thrilled to premiere a collection of original paintings by internationally celebrated artist, Samir Sammoun, capturing the regatta alongside the picturesque Charles River.

Complementing our Stroke of Genius Exhibition are highlights from the legendary Pissarro Family Collection. Meet artist Lyora Pissarro, great-great-granddaughter to the Father of Impressionism-Camille Pissarro, and consider paintings spanning five generations from this prominent Pissarro family. Join us in celebrating the Impressionist Landscape this September, and experience one of the finest painters continuing in the Impressionist tradition in company with the birth of Impressionist landscapes. With both artists Samir Sammoun and Lyora Pissarro present on September 29th, you’ll want to RSVP early!

Contemporaries: Kathy Buist & Natasha Zupan at Galerie d'Orsay

With excitement, Galerie d’Orsay is proud to present a duo exhibition featuring two outstanding contemporary female artists, Kathy Buist and Natasha Zupan. Drawing on inspiration from the past with an eye towards the future – Kathy through the poetry of Ralph Waldo Emerson & Henry David Thoreau and Natasha honoring the old world masters and renaissance hues – we are delighted to share their newest collections this June.

THROUGH MY EYES

BRUNO ZUPAN

APRIL – MAY 2018

Bruno Zupan has spent his life in pursuit of light. From the golden warmth of a Venetian sunset to the sparkling city lights of Boston, he captures the varied, yet simple manifestations of its beauty. Bruno’s works have been honored in museums worldwide, including The Museo de Mallorca, the Columbus Museum of Art, GA and our own Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in association with Art in Bloom. Along with prestigious private collections, including the Vanderbilts, Rockefeller and Rothschild families, his exquisite paintings are a joy to experience.

Storytellers: Picasso, Chagall, Matisse and More at Galerie d'Orsay

STORYTELLERS

PICASSO, CHAGALL, MATISSE & MORE

JANUARY – APRIL 2018

Our winter exhibition celebrates our fascination with storytelling and the tomes from which they come. Discover Pablo Picasso’s wife Jacqueline enveloping herself in a tale, Tolla Inbar’s sculpture Accumulating Knowledge, and the Modern Masters’ fascination with the illustrated folio. This show features the greatest stories in history told visually, including Rembrandt’s Bible studies, Salvador Dali’s Mythology Suite, Marc Chagall’s rapturing love story of Daphnis & Chloe, and several works from what art historians call the ultimate ‘art livre’ — Henri Matisse’s famed Jazz Suite! This February join us and revel in these stories, and our love of books, through the eyes of the most influential artists of all time.

Honored Traditions: Sammoun & Torres at Galerie d'Orsay

HONORED TRADITIONS

SAMMOUN & TORRES

NOVEMBER 2017 – JANUARY 2018

Painter Samir Sammoun has drawn inspiration from generations past in his depictions of sweeping wheat fields backdropped by the brilliant blue Mediterranean Sea, and of lush olive groves owned and harvested by his family for thousands of years. Renowned sculptor Gustavo Torres also explores his own heritage through the natural forms and colors of ancient civilizations of the Americas. His newest collection is particularly inspired by a recent trip to Mesa Verde.

Partners in Palette: Alexander Calder, Joan Miro and More at Galerie d'Orsay

PARTNERS IN PALETTE

ALEXANDER CALDER, JOAN MIRO & MORE

SEPTEMBER 2017 – NOVEMBER 2017

Alexander Calder first met Joan Miró when he arranged a studio visit in Paris with the Catalan genius in 1928. Although their personalities and backgrounds ranged wildly--one an American of great size and presence, the other more petite and taciturn--the two shared an uncommon kinship over the following fifty years. While living an ocean apart, they each discovered very similar and entirely unprecedented artistic visions. These two great artists continue to influence future generations. We are also delighted to present Richard Roblin and Sen-1, two significant and highly celebrated painters continuing to challenge the way we experience life and art today.

Women in Art: Ahern, Buist, Cassatt, Frankenthaler ad More at Galerie d'Orsay

WOMEN IN ART

AHERN, BUIST, CASSATT, GOVE, FRANKENTHALER, & MORE

MAY 2017 – JULY 2017

The only American artist to exhibit with the French Impressionists, Mary Cassatt‘s signature works were intimate portrayals depicting Mother & Child in everyday moments. At a time when women were limited to the household, Cassatt forged a trail for independent women artists to pursue their own artistic careers. Exhibition will include the artistic voices of Kathy Buist, Mary Cassatt, Elizabeth DaCosta Ahern, Helen Frankenthaler, Carol Gove, Natasha Zupan, and will introduce new contemporary artist to our collection, Angela Sommerhoff. Galerie d‘Orsay is proud to honor the immense contributions of women the arts while supporting the generous local charity, She Gives, throughout our summer exhibition

Paining in Poetry: Bruno Zupan and Natasha Zupan at Galerie d'Orsay

PAINTING IN POETRY

BRUNO ZUPAN & NATASHA ZUPAN

MARCH 2017 – MAY 2017

An impressionist at heart, Bruno Zupan's exquisite city scenes and sweeping European vistas continue to captivate art lovers worldwide. His vibrant color palette enhances our memory of place, while his invigorating brushstrokes and unique spatter techniques modernize the impressionist tradition. His daughter, Natasha, presents a new collection juxtaposing traditional representation with contemporary influences. Through the manipulation of texture, color, light, and the interweaving of time, Natasha's newest works capture the evolution of past, present, and future.

CAPTURING A MOMENT / THE ART OF THE PRINT

ALBERS, CHAGALL, CASSATT, FRANKENTHALER, REMBRANDT & MORE

FEBRUARY 2017 – MARCH 2017

Throughout history, major artists immortalized singular moments in time through the dynamic medium of printmaking. Rembrandt created chiaroscuro to capture human emotion through etching. Miro sculpted with carborundum. Picasso discovered that by working from the boldest forms down to the finest, he could print successive colors in linoleum from the same block. Pure Genius! Join Galerie d’Orsay as we kick off our 2017 exhibition series celebrating The Art of the Print as we toast the masters who defined the medium.
